Appetizers for your Fall Dinner Party

Cooking this time of year is a blast.  I love the robust and rich flavors the autumn harvest brings in and the way our homes seem to warm with aromas bubbling in the kitchen.  That is why this small series for Harvest Dinner Party is so much fun.  I am able to  pull in as many of those full bodied flavors that this time of year is known for and share them with you.

This time around I did something a bit different than going through my own cookbooks and recipe box or searching for links to my favs online.   I went directly to some of the best cooks and bloggers I know and asked them if they would like to participate in this post and add some of their favorite Fall Appetizers.  The response was overwhelming ~ thank you to all of you who emailed amazing recipes.  When I was finished categorizing and adding them to folders I was starving and had to eat a midnight snack simply from looking at all of those delicious photographs of your amazing cuisine.  I have decided to split this Appetizer post in two,  because I had such a difficult time choosing ~ everything is so magnificent.

I have been working to pull a good variety of dishes and flavors so that you have many appetizers to choose from to pair with your main dish, so there isn’t really a flow of any specific theme.  Included with each one of their appetizers is a link to their blog or page.   I encourage you to take the time to look around at their entire site as these wonderful pages have so much to offer for cooking and entertaining for every occasion.  They are an amazing reference to future meals and inspiration for your own ideas and they are always there to answer any questions you may have.

So let’s get this party started!

Eggplant Caponata

The first post this morning is an elegant appetizer that uses just a few simple ingredients and is bursting with flavor.   Sunday at the Giacomettis is an excellent blog and a great reference for entertaining.  Barbara has shared her Eggplant Caponata with us and it is an excellent starter for an autumn gathering.

Ingredient Summary

  • Eggplant
  • Olive Oil
  • Tomatoes
  • Black Olives
  • White Wine

Chicken Red Onion Marmalade Wraps

The next post is for an appetizer a bit more hands on.  Mia from Mia’s Domain has sent us her Chicken Red Onion Marmalade Wraps.   This appetizer is fairly easy to assemble, full of flavor and the presentation is gorgeous.  Your guests will love this!

Ingredient Summary

  • Red Onions
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Raw Brown Sugar
  • Olive Oil
  • Gourmet Sausage
  • Spring Roll Sheets

Gorgeous Greek Layer Dip with toasted Pita Chips

This next dish is from Ann at Sumptuous Spoonfuls ~ one of my favorite blogs ~ She is sharing her Gorgeous Greek Layer Dip with Toasted Pita Chips and is a bit more involved than the previous two up above.  If you have any questions regarding the ingredients, Ann will be delighted to answer your inquiry.   I guarantee you the results are well worth the preparation time and look at that, the colors simply pop right out of the bowl.

Ingredient Summary

  • Whole Wheat Pitas or Pita Pockets
  • Ground Lean Meat (your choice)
  • Tzatziki
  • Red Onion
  • Tomato
  • Feta Crumbles

Bruschetta Platter

The next post is a fun and interactive piece for your guests from Kitchen Trysts with Ki.   Nothing breaks the ice like a project that engages your audience and begins conversation and you will get a kick out of watching them assemble their own appetizer.  Especially after a couple of cocktails.   The list of ingredients is quite extensive for this recipe so I will jot down the four basic Bruschetta’s that Ki puts together and you can pop into her site for the actual list of ingredients for them.  Remember, there are not any rules, once the naked bread is laid out before your guests, how they dress it is up to them.

  • Chunky Cherry Tomatoes with Dressing & Mozzarella Cheese Cubes
  • Pesto with Slow Roasted Tomatoes and Caramelized Onions
  • Seared Chicken with Red Capsicum & Basil
  • Cheesy Bread with Olives, Capers, Basil Chiffonade and Yellow Capsicum

Baked Zucchini Sticks and Sweet Onion Dip

Patti from Comfy Cuisine has submitted a fabulous appetizer for your pleasure.  Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside is how she describes this delectable starter.   There are two versions on her site for this dish, one is guilt free and one is not, which gives you options for preparation and that is a definite plus!

Ingredients Summary

  • Butter
  • Onion
  • Vinegar
  • Honey
  • Prepared Mustard
  • Mayonnaise

Zucchini Sticks

  • Zucchini
  • Panko Bread Crumbs
  • Parmesean Cheese
  • Eggs

Phase two is coming out tomorrow ~ there were so many delectable posts I just can’t stop!!  You can always find me here or on my Facebook page  Celebrating Home with Karie Engels.  I would love to see you there…swing on in!
